Think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate couldn’t get any better? Think again. Since launch, we have had six updates adding new features to the game, along with five fantastic DLC fighters representing some of the greatest video games ever.
This takes the total number of fighters all the way up to 75. Sure, some are just variations on the same hero or villain, but that is still a lot of stars and moves to come to grips with.
Throw in nine different play modes, some both single-player and multiplayer, and this isn’t a game you are going to get tired of any time soon. Get in there, explore the newest modes and fighters and find out why Super Smash Bros. Ultimate keeps smashing it out of the park.
Quick Tips
Cut the Countdown
Looking to unlock new characters faster? Normally the game has a minimum 10-minute cooldown before a new challenger appears, but you can reset this just by quitting your current game mode and coming back or trying a different mode.
Use Your Shield
Raise your shield if you don’t want to get smashed around the stage. That shrinking bubble can’t hold off all of the damage, but it will soak up the worst of it.
Master Comeback Moves
If you get launched off a platform, don’t give up. Each character has a recovery move (press B and Up at the same time), which can be used to get back into the action.
Home Run
One of our favourite new features is the return of the classic Home Run Contest mode. You have a sandbag and just 10 seconds to do as much damage as possible. Do enough, grab the bat, then smash that sandbag through the sky. How far can you make it go?
The New Smash Stars
Hero
The Luminary from Dragon Quest XI puts in a great guest appearance. He has some hard-hitting combos and a real height advantage plus a shield that can block projectiles. He also comes with alternate outfits based on other classic Dragon Quest games.
Banjo-Kazooie
The duo from Rare’s classic platform games work together as a single heavy fighter. They are slow to move until they get going, but surprisingly speedy once they do and they have got some really nasty jab and smash attacks. Just watch out for their weak knockout moves.
Terry Bogard
Terry is on loan from the legendary Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series, and, man, does he know how to fight. He has got some brutal flying kicks, punches, throws and uppercuts, making it easy to launch his enemies off the ground and high into the air.
